Mount Ngauruhoe

Description

An active stratovolcano, Mount Ngauruhoe is the youngest vent in the Tongariro volcanic complex on the Central Plateau of the North Island. Often regarded as a separate mountain, geologically, it is a secondary cone of Mount Tongariro. Being active for at least 2,500 years, it has produced more than 70 eruptive episodes since 1839.
